Public Domain Day 2026. On january 1, 2025, thousands of copyrighted works from 1929 will enter the us public domain, along with sound recordings from 1924. On january 1, 2021, copyrighted works from 1925 will enter the us public domain, 1 where they will be free for all to use and build upon.

After a long delay because of law changes, works from 1923 finally entered the public domain in the u.s. When a work’s copyright expires, it enters the public domain.
